ABOUT THE AUTHOR:

Years ago, I worked as a wilderness guide. As I hiked through the peaceful mountains and forest, I would occupy my mind with stories of the environment and the animals that lived there. Later I would tell those stories around the campfire to the various groups that I was leading. Then, just as quickly as the stories had come to me, many disappeared from my mind — being lost forever. Through the encouragement of friends and family, I started writing the stories down and later started developing children’s books. It is my hope that these stories will help educate and develop the minds of our youth to adopt good moral standards and to appreciate and understand the importance of our natural environment and the many animals that call the wild places their home.

Hace años, trabajé como guía de naturaleza. Mientras caminaba por las tranquilas montañas y bosques, ocupaba mi mente con historias sobre el entorno y los animales que vivían allí. Más tarde, contaba esas historias alrededor de la fogata a los distintos grupos que guiaba. Luego, tan rápido como las historias llegaban a mi mente, muchas desaparecían, perdidas para siempre. Gracias al ánimo de amigos y familiares, comencé a escribir las historias y, más tarde, empecé a desarrollar libros para niños. Espero que estas historias ayuden a educar y a desarrollar la mente de nuestros jóvenes, fomentando buenos valores morales y apreciando y comprendiendo la importancia de nuestro entorno natural y los muchos animales que tienen en los lugares salvajes su hogar.

ABOUT THE ILLUSTRATOR:

Emelia grew up in southwest Washington state and found a love for creating art at a young age. She enjoyed writing and illustrating her own stories, and dreamed that one day she would become a children’s book illustrator. She attended an arts magnet school for middle for middle school and high school where her passion for arts and academics became intertwined. Ultimately, she went on to graduate from Portland State University and began a career in urban planning in Oregon – but never stopped making art. This was possible in part because of Ron Hoffman and all the creative projects they have worked on over several years. The Lonely Coyote is the second children’s book that she has illustrated for.

Emelia creció en el suroeste del estado de Washington y descubrió su amor por la creación artística a una edad temprana. Disfrutaba escribir e ilustrar sus propias historias y soñaba con que algún día se convertiría en ilustradora de libros infantiles. Asistió a una escuela secundaria con enfoque en artes para la escuela intermedia y preparatoria, donde su pasión por las artes y los estudios académicos se entrelazó. Eventualmente, se graduó de la Universidad Estatal de Portland y comenzó una carrera en planificación urbana en Oregón, pero nunca dejó de crear arte.
